Would it actually surprise anyone to know I am currently sitting in Everlou Coffee as I type this? Sipping on an iced Untucked Lounge Latte, which is made with cookie butter syrup and oat milk which is part of their Drag Queen Menu this weekend to benefit Drag Queen Story Hour Triangle.
Everlou Coffee Co. first blessed the Bull City with their presence in May of 2021, so they just recently celebrated their first anniversary, complete with Birthday Cake Lattes that weekend, which of course were amazing. The name “Everlou” comes from the names of the two matriarchs of the family, Evelyn and Mary Louise. The shop is located at 506 N. Mangum St. which is just a hop, skip, and a jump from the heart of downtown Durham.

Coffee:
The coffee is obviously the true star. Everlou uses an NC Roaster, Pure Intentions, which is based out of Charlotte. Their signature shop drink is the Toffee Latte, and each weekend they also offer a rotating menu of Cereal Milk Lattes as well (the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal Milk Latte is available every weekend since it is the most popular). Their Summer Menu is currently in full swing at the shop which features a Sweet Cream Latte, Lavender Vanilla Latte, and a Brown Sugar Latte. I have tried two of the three summer drinks and can confirm they are delicious.
They are constantly offering additional fun weekend specialty drinks for holidays/ events or to benefit local organizations. A few notable specials over the past year have been: Harry’s House Menu, Peeps Latte and Cadbury Mocha Lattes for Easter, blue drinks for the Duke vs. UNC championship game, and Ube Latte for the Loverboy Coffee Pop-up.
All of their drinks are oat milk based, meaning there is no upcharge for getting nondairy milk and all of their specials are vegan friendly.

Dogs:
Not only do I love Everlou, but Wally does as well. Since I am a crazy obsessed dog mom and Wally and I are attached at the hip at all times, I love dog friendly places. Every time I go in I see so many dogs, which is sure to brighten up anyone’s day. Whenever I ask Wally “Do you want to go to Everlou?” His eyes light up with pure joy since he knows he is going to go in and get all the attention and be treated to a nondairy pup cup!

Events:
If there is one thing Everlou loves, it is showcasing local artists and other small businesses to the community. When you walk in, the wall to the right is covered in prints and artwork for sale from local artists. If you keep an eye on their Instagram, you can stay in the loop on pop-up events they are host. These normally take place on Saturday mornings. In May for their anniversary month, each Saturday they hosted a different maker: Little Barb’s Bakery, Oakley Bear Designs, and Terry Taft.

Parking:
This is something I low-key stress about all the time when I go to a new place. I need all the parking secrets. While Everlou does not have their own private lot, there is always ample street parking available out front and around the corner of the building. For now the city of Durham is allowing us to park free on the weekends (fingers crossed that doesn’t go away). Technically there is a “No Parking” sign directly out front of the building, but if I am running in quickly or there on the weekend I will park there and have not had any issues (knock on wood). Please don’t come for me though if you do this and get a ticket.

Bathrooms:
Coming from a girl who has an overactive bladder and IBS, I love a good bathroom and the one in Everlou is top tier. It is gender neutral and super cute. The walls are lined with prints of adorable animals drinking coffee. There is always a supply of tampons and pads on hand if you need them, along with a sign saying “Take What You Need” which since now we are in a tampon shortage, can be extremely helpful.

Fun Announcement:
I am going to be hosting my first meetup soon at Everlou on July 2nd! There will be fun “Life With Hanny” themed drink specials available that morning, and I am beyond thrilled. I hope to see you there!!
